America’s Presidential Election will be held in little more than a year. With the date drawing near, Republican nominees have been debating on the serious issues which plaque our country. Some of those issues are job creation and health, such as healthy eating, government health coverage, and more. But as both the Republican and Democratic parties argue over how to “fix” our country, entrepreneurs are hard at work, with ideas that could truly bring about successful change.
Entrepreneurs Work is Vital in Solving the Nation’s Economic Ills
As pointed out in a previous article, entrepreneurs have become a very important part of the workforce in America. While the citizens of the nation face job loss and economic crisis, the Democratic President has spent four years in office promising job creation, health coverage, and more. Unfortunately, politicians are having a difficult time solving the problems which we face. Entrepreneurs, meanwhile, have become the “unseen force” which is working in the background, with ideas and success stories that are as real as America herself.
Entrepreneurs and small businesses make a positive contribution to the nation’s economy. A California entrepreneur has launched a huge job creation expansion which could bring at least eleven hundred jobs to the Indianapolis, Indiana area alone. These are just a few of the many examples of job creation which is brought about when entrepreneurs flourish.
When an entrepreneur launches his or her startup, they will soon need to hire employees. There are very few small businesses which do not need a staff of some sort. They bring a demand for their product as well as introduce new ideas, technologies and more into the market. It is safe to say from those facts that entrepreneurship has likely created far more jobs than politics. But that is not their only focus.
Entrepreneurs vs. Politicians
In a recent post at ‘Xconomy.com’, Rowan Chapman shared a few ideas which entrepreneurs are putting into use that focus on health issues. As politicians battle over Happy Meal toys and health care laws, entrepreneurs have been busy producing companies which actually work to improve health and healthcare.
One of those entrepreneurs is Ron Gutman, who came up with a plan of “trust sourcing” relevant health care information instead of crowd sourcing. His company, “HealthTap” has released a mobile app which will connect physicians with their patients. Over six thousand of the leading doctors in the US and five hundred healthcare institutions have become a part of this business. HealthTap has just closed it’s first round of funding with eleven and a half million dollars.
Halle Tecco is one of the founders from Rock Health. According to their webpage, Rock Health is powering the next generation of the digital health world by being a seed accelerator just for health start ups. They provide mentorship, capital, office space, and operational support in San Francisco, California.
Aza Raskin is another entrepreneur who is bringing about positive change in health. He was a founding member of Mozilla Labs and former Creative Lead for Firefox, and has now focused his attention on health care. His company, “MassiveHealth” has recently launched an app for iPhone known as “The Eatery,” which tracks and analyzes the users’ eating habits, and then offers ideas of how to eat more healthy.
“Lifebridge,” at ‘lifebridgehealth.org’ has just passed the submission date (Dec 7th) for their “Lifebridge Health Entrepreneurial Challenge.” In this challenge, women, minorities, and service-disabled veterans were invited to showcase their own ideas for solving the health issues which America faces. The winner of that challenge will receive a monetary prize of twenty thousand dollars and the chance to pitch their idea to investors.
And those are just a few of the health improving ideas which entrepreneurs have not only thought of, but worked at, and launched. From creating jobs to improving health care, entrepreneurs seem to be doing what politicians are fighting over; successfully working together to solve the nation’s issues while politicians debate over the “best” way to get things done.

Politicians vs entrepreneurs reminds me of my older brother vs. myself and my little brother as kids and even today a times. The oldest was and always has been the “smartest”. Always in his various knowledge based books learning things. If a problem ever occurred or something needed fixing th eoldest would break out his pencil and paper which often times would include graph paper, time sheets, and the like. Now days he does most of this on his computer. Durin the three days it took him to analyze and connect each dot to the apropriate other dot my little brother and I had fixed the problem on the first day. This happened throughout our lives and he still doesnt get it!
Thanks for sharing your story Keith. In today’s world, it seems as though your older brother is not the only one who doesn’t “get it.”
